Keri Bredšo (Sara Džesika Parker) je njujorška novinarka koja svoja razmišljanja o ljubavi i strasti objavljuje u kolumni "Seks i grad". Inspiraciju pronalazi u svojim i iskustvima svoje tri prijateljice: Samante (Kim Kantral), koja je slobodna da iskusi sve što joj život pruža, Šarlote (Kristin Dejvis), koja još uvek veruje da ljubav pobeđuje sve; i cinične Mirande (Sintija Nikson), advokatice u velikoj kompaniji kojoj je najmanje stalo do romanse. Tema za Kerine kolumne je i Zverka (Kris Nort), zgodni i misteriozni biznismen koji joj uvek ubrza otkucaje srca.
Keri Bredšo (Sara Džesika Parker) - naratorka serije. Svaka epizoda vrti se oko pripremanje njene nedeljne kolumne nazvane „Seks i grad", u kojoj ona razmatra različita pitanja o muško-ženskim odnosima, ljubavima, rastancima, pogrešnim izborima, samoći... Živi na Menhetnu, rado je viđena na gradskim zabavama i važi za trendseterku jer ne žali da „odreši kesu" za najskuplje cipele i garderobu. U potrazi je za gospodinom savršenim, ali na ovom polju ima najviše problema.
Samanta Džouns ( Kim Kantral) - najstarija u ženskoj „četvorki" sa najslobodnijim shvatanjima. Radi kao PR i zahvaljujući svojoj komunikativnosti i otvorenosti lako ulazi u seksualno - emotivne veze. Ona je jaka, samostalna, samouverena žena koja pomera granice sopstvene seksualnosti sa idejom : hoću sve da probam.
Šarlot Jork (Kristin Dejvis) - potiče iz bogate porodice. Devojka za primer koja živi po pravilima. Radi u galeriji, voli lepe stvari, kulturne manire, duhovnu lepotu. Čvrsto veruje u instituciju braka i porodice. Zbog konvencionalnih, uštogljenih razmišljanja često je predmet sprdnje svojim drugaricama, pogotovo Samanti koja joj je potpuna suprotnost.
Miranda Hobs ( Sintija Nikson) - uspešna advokatica u potpunosti okupirana karijerom. Prema muškarcima gaji ciničan stav. U početku deluje hladno, proračunato, čvrsto i nepokolebljivo, isključivo, ali vremenom postaje nežnija. Ona je najbolja Kerina prijateljica, njeno „rame za plakanje" i „glas razuma".
Zanimljivosti:
- Višestruko nagrađivana, serija je nominovana za čak pedeset Emi nagrada , od kojih je dobila sedam. Priprale joj je i osam Zlatnih globusa (od dvadeset i četiri nominacije).
- Nastala je prema seriji autobiografskih kolumni Kendis Bušnel objavljenih u „The New York Observeru".
- Samo zbog popularnosti serije, uvedena je turistička tura u Njujorku na lokacijama gde su snimani kadrovi serije.
- Ženska svetska publika poludela je za Zverkom i Mr. Big je postao sinonim za neprežaljenog muškarca.
- Keri je promovisala „Manolo Blanik" cipele i lansirala ih u modnu orbitu.
- Koktel „Kosmopolitan" postao je imperativ kod „singl" tridesetgodišnjakinja.
- U gotovo svakom magazinu osvanuo je test „Koji si tip devojke: Keri, Miranda, Šarlot ili Samanta".
